Earth is a microbial planet. Microbes, in their unruly multitudes, have co-evolved with all life on earth, shaped by and shaping more-than-human social life in profound ways. Humans, a much newer but similarly world-altering species, tangle up with microbes in ways that define, mediate, and shape life across social practices, geographical areas, and species lines.
